Find verbatim quotes without rereading your interview transcripts
HILO selects the verbatim phrases from your interviews or focus groups, grouped by interviewee, with the page and the exact words each person used.
The quote you need exists. Someone said it, at some point, and all you have to do is find it.
- Grouped by interview or document, with page
- Finds the quote even when it doesn't use your words
- Downloads ready to paste into the report
It works on a folder of interviews or on a single one.
Verbatim quotes with references to who said them and where
Not a summary of what they said, and not a paraphrase. The passage exactly as it is in the transcript, with the reference to get back to it.
Concept: distrust of institutions
None of those three says “distrust” or “institutions”. That's why searching by keyword isn't enough: people don't speak in the vocabulary of the theoretical framework.
The download brings the quotes grouped by interview, with the page and section of each one, in a file that opens in Word.
When there is a lot of material and the quote has to be exact
Research reports
Twenty interviews and a report that needs three quotes per finding, with references.
Product research
Finding the times someone described the problem in their own words, for the presentation.
Organizational diagnostics
The quote that supports the diagnosis, attributed and traceable.
Stories with many sources
Recovering what each interviewee said about a point without going back to the audio.
From transcript to quote, in three steps
- You upload the interviews. A single one, or a folder with all of them: the search runs through them together.
- You type the concept and gather. The passages that deal with it come back, even if they don't use those words.
- You mark the ones that work and download. Grouped by interview, with page and section, ready to paste.
Yes, verbatim. They are shown and downloaded as they are in the transcript, without summarizing or rewording.
That's what it does. It searches by meaning, so a concept like “institutional distrust” brings up the person who said “I know it's going to be wrong”. Without AI it works by keyword, and then it does need matches.
Yes. If you upload them as a folder, the same concept is searched across all of them and the quotes come back grouped by interview, showing how many each one contributed.
Yes, and they are kept: the passage comes out as it is, with the timestamp if it has one. The page reference is added separately.
Word (.docx) and PDF. If you have the transcripts as plain text, pasting them into a Word file is enough.
Yes. Finding verbatim quotes and coding are the same screen: what you mark stays as a code and you can download the full codebook.
